MY STORY

Dr. Katrine B. Hegillman is a Registered Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Oriri Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine Centre. She is dedicated to supporting and serving the community by offering Traditional Chinese Medicine, Traditional Japanese Acupuncture, and Functional Medicine services (www.ifm.org).
Dr. Hegillman's journey into medicine began at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, where she completed 4.5 years of study in Agricultural Engineering and Human Nutrition. There, she was inspired by her mentor, Professor Gorny, who introduced students to "outside-the-box" thinking — including Rudolf Steiner’s teachings, the Yin-Yang philosophy, plant companionship knowledge, and ecological methods of food production. She pursued Nutritional Science at the Agricultural University of Warsaw until 1995.
In 1995, Dr. Hegillman began her studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine at ICTCM in Vancouver, B.C. Upon graduating in 1999, she completed her clinical practicum at Anhui Hospital of Acupuncture in Hefei, China. After returning from China, she established her first practice in Kitsilano, Vancouver, where she served patients for 10 years.
In 2005, she attended a seminar in San Francisco that introduced her to Japanese Acupuncture, studying under Master Ikeda Masakazu. In 2009, Dr. Hegillman moved to Marrakech, Morocco, where she ran an official practice serving both the expatriate and local Moroccan communities for 3 years. During that time, she trained in several complementary modalities, including the Neurological Integration System (with Dr. Allan Phillips, D.O., 2005–2009) and Psych-K (with Robert Williams and Dr. Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., 2003–2008).
Since 2010, Dr. Hegillman has incorporated Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei’s acupuncture style into her practice. She attended seminars in London, U.K., and later pursued further training with Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei and Monika Kobylecka, L.Ac., in Portland, Oregon, USA. In 2012, she settled in Victoria, B.C., where she opened her licensed practice: Oriri Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine Centre, treating both children and adults. In 2015, she completed her Advanced KMS (Kiiko Matsumoto Style) Japanese Acupuncture Training.
From 2017 to 2023, Dr. Hegillman expanded her knowledge by studying with the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM), integrating modern, evidence-based approaches to wellness, chronic illness, diet, nutrition, and lifestyle into her practice. In 2023, she became an IFM Certified Practitioner (IFMCP), offering Functional Medicine consultations both in person and virtually, blending them uniquely with the philosophy and principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
In early 2024, Dr. Hegillman completed additional training with the Dr. Jerry Tennant Institute, incorporating the Biomodulator and Biotransducer into her clinical practice to enhance acupuncture diagnosis and treatment outcomes.
Dr. Hegillman’s passion for learning and community service continues to thrive. In her free time, she attends ongoing seminars to refine her skills across multiple disciplines, teaches Qi Gong and Sotai Hō to promote health and wellness, sings in a modern Polish folk band, and volunteers at schools, community centers, and retirement homes, offering free talks on Japanese Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. Most importantly, she treasures time with her family—whether learning violin with her children, attending ballet classes with her daughter, or hiking with her husband and kids.
